Alabama Hunters on the Front Lines: Turkey Season, Feral Hogs, and Why Your May Vote Matters
Fellow Alabama hunters,
From the piney woods and river bottoms of South Alabama to the rolling hills and hardwood forests of North Alabama, hunting runs deep in our blood. Whether you’re chasing longbeards during spring turkey season, managing deer on family land, or helping control the feral hog population that’s tearing up our fields and forests, being an Alabama hunter is a proud tradition.
Alabama Hunters on the Front Lines: Turkey Season and the Battle Against Feral Hogs
Right now, Alabama is in the heart of spring turkey season - one of the longest and most generous in the nation. With Zones 1 and 3 running through May 8 and Zone 2 also open, hunters across the state are out in the woods listening for that thunderous gobble.
At the same time, Alabama hunters continue to play a critical role in conservation by controlling feral hog populations. These invasive animals cause millions of dollars in agricultural damage every year and destroy critical wildlife habitat, including areas vital for wild turkeys and other game. Alabama allows year-round hog hunting on private land with no bag limit - and Hunter Nation Alabama strongly supports empowering landowners and hunters with even better tools to fight this growing problem. This is classic wildlife conservation in action:
Hunters as the ultimate conservationists. Every hog taken and every turkey harvested helps protect habitat, support wildlife populations, and keep Alabama’s wild places healthy for generations to come.
Hunter Nation Alabama Chapter - Where We Stand Today
The Hunter Nation Alabama chapter is off to a strong start in 2026. We’ve been actively engaged throughout the legislative session, advocating for pro-hunting and pro-conservation bills - including measures to strengthen and protect public land access. Our grassroots network is growing quickly as we connect with sportsmen and sportswomen across the state, build relationships with lawmakers in Montgomery, and prepare for long-term action to protect our hunting heritage and Second Amendment rights.
We’re also forming a Advisory Council of dedicated Alabama outdoorsmen to help guide our efforts moving forward. If you haven’t joined yet, now is the perfect time - head over to hunternation.org/alabama to become a member, stay informed, and get involved. Together, we’re keeping Alabama wild and free.
The May Primary Is Critical - Alabama Hunters Cannot Sit This One Out
The 2026 election cycle is here, and the choices made in this Primary will shape hunting and conservation policy in Alabama for years to come. With hundreds of thousands of licensed hunters in our state, we have the power to be a major voting bloc - if we actually show up.
This May, we have the opportunity to elect leaders who understand the importance of our hunting heritage, defend the Second Amendment, and invest in wildlife conservation. Don’t let your voice go unheard.
