Ronnie "Cuz" Strickland - Mossy Oak

Cuz joined the Mossy Oak team in 1988, two years after the company was born, first as salesman, then in marketing and public relations. He worked with Toxey to found Mossy Oak's media productions department, building a large series of retail video titles, then launching the company's first broadcast television offerings with Mossy Oak's Hunting the Country on TNN in 1995. Today, as Senior Vice President, he oversees media efforts that have expanded to include both traditional broadcast and online video. Cuz is the author of three books of humor and instruction on turkey hunting, and in 2010 was recognized as the National Wild Turkey Federation's Communicator of the Year.

As I grew up hunting in Mississippi, the sport quickly became my passion. I remember flipping through hunting magazines at a young age and being entertained for hours. My whole life was surrounded by hunting as I began working in a sporting goods store and writing an outdoor column. As a part of that job, I attended the Shooting Hunting Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show every year. It was at one of these shows where I first met Toxey, which ultimately led to him hiring me first as a salesperson, then in marketing and public relations.

For around 20 years, I hunted turkeys 75 days of the year. At that time, there was not that much content surrounding turkey hunting, especially in terms of footage. I took advantage of this and began filming as I hunted. Eventually, Mossy Oak had five TV shows running on major networks. Of course, this took away from my time at home, but I didn’t really mind as I got to spend my time doing the two things I love: turkey hunting and filming.

One of the most memorable hunting experiences was with Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. It was a thrill to be able to hunt alongside him and hear his stories. We were not allowed to film this hunt because Justice Scalia has such tight security around him. Regardless, the fact that he wanted to hunt with me and Toxey was an honor enough. After the hunt, we went fishing, sat around camp and talked all about gun laws and the Constitution. He truly was a man of great character, and it was a great day spent.
