Jana Waller - Skull Bound Chronicles

My Dad Paul encouraged me to get outdoors and into nature. He let me shadow him in the duck blinds as a grade schooler and signed me up for hunter’s safety.

I was in college only 15 minutes from my home and received a call from my Dad who asked me to help him look for a nice whitetail buck he’d shot with his bow. He lost the buck’s trail but felt confident with the shot. I drove home and we proceeded to pick up the search, zigzagging through the tall corn
field. Minutes later I shouted, “Dad! I found him! I found him!” Dashing through the stalks, my Dad ran over jumping up and down with excitement! I had honestly never seen my Dad more thrilled in his life and it was the beginning of MY bowhunting passion. I thought to myself, “I want to know what that feels like” and I bought my first bow shortly after. It was a moment we both cherish to this day

I was blessed to draw a fantastic moose tag in Alaska years back. We rented the horses and rode into the mountains to one of the most spectacular places I’d ever hunted. The backcountry style hunt was fantastic, the scenery was phenomenal and I ended up with a beautiful Alaskan moose.

Wherever I’m currently hunting. Haha. I don’t have a favorite place in particular but I love the West. I live in Montana where we can hunt so many big game species every year. I also bear hunt Idaho every spring and often hunt Wyoming for elk and muleys. I also hold a special place in my heart for Alaska. I’m heading back there this fall to Prince Of Wales for another black bear hunt.

I’ve tried to pass down my passion for hunting not only through my Tv show, but also with my stepson and friend’s children. It’s critical that we get our youth involved so that they can not only personally enjoy it but so they understand why hunting is so important for wildlife management. When they learn to love the hunt and understand it’s value, they’ll then hopefully get involved to protect it.

I belong to 7 different hunting based conservation organizations. Hunting is a passion of mine and now more than ever before we need to band together to protect it. It’s simply hard to keep up with everything and groups like Hunter Nation help me stay informed of the current political strategies being used to stop hunting, trapping and our gun rights.

That’s a very deep question but to some it up God, Family and Country is the foundation of who I am. My personal relationship with God is one based on daily gratitude for the life I live. My family encompasses not just my blood relatives in Wisconsin that I love, but my extended family of friends and loved ones that I’ve met throughout the outdoor industry. And COUNTRY is something that is very important to me. I spend a lot of time with combat
veterans and I feel so lucky to live in the greatest country in world. Despite the current chaos in our nation, I still believe that we are blessed with immense opportunity, unlimited potential and bountiful freedoms that allow all things to be possible through hard work and determination. Freedom certainly isn’t free but it needs to be first appreciated, then cherished and protected as our Founding Fathers intended.

I’m an artist. I’m from South Africa a country of true hunting. I’m all for Jana’s feelings as to oppose groups that don’t want hunting to exist. Shooting is a way of controlling wildlife and animals. As long as an animal have a one on one chance to escape, that’s what hunting is about. After reading Jana Waller’s answers on above questions, it’s very clear to me we must stand firm and not be intimidated by those groups. Rather let those groups come out to South Africa and start taking out poachers. They are a danger to animals. They are a the people they must oppose. Thank you
