Hunter Nation’s Efforts Lead to Monumental Legislative Victory for Hunters: Pennsylvania Passes Sunday Hunting Bill

Harrisburg, PA — In a significant victory for hunters throughout the Commonwealth, the Pennsylvania House has concurred with the Senate’s passage of  House Bill 1431 (HB1413).  The bill, spearheaded by Hunter Nation, received public backing from a wide range of stakeholders, including the Pennsylvania Game Commission, the PA Farm Bureau, Hunter United for Sunday Hunting (HUSH), and the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen and Conservationists (PFSC).

“This coalition extends beyond hunters to include landowners, farmers, conservationists, and parents,” added Sneath. “These individuals recognize that increased access fosters greater opportunity, not increased conflict.”

This pivotal legislation aims to overturn the state's long standing prohibition on Sunday hunting, thereby enabling the Pennsylvania Game Commission to permit hunting activities on any day of the week.

Introduced by Representative Mandy Steele (D-33), the bill received strong bipartisan support.

“The passage of HB1431 by the Pennsylvania General Assembly is a monumental step toward ending the prohibition on Sunday hunting in the Commonwealth,” said Dan Sneath, Hunter Nation’s Pennsylvania Director of Legislative Affairs. “We are closer than ever to providing a long-deserved opportunity to our hunters, particularly working-class families.”

Hunter Nation has been a driving force behind the push for expanded access, submitting testimony, mobilizing grassroots support, and building a broad coalition in both legislative chambers.

“Hard-working Pennsylvanians need more days to be afield with their families,” said John Bingaman, Hunter Nation’s Pennsylvania State Director. “Sunday is often the only day they can pass on our outdoor traditions to their children. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Sunday hunting is about fairness, freedom, and the future of our sport.”

HB1431 will now move to the Governor’s desk to be signed into law—effectively ending one of the last blue law restrictions on Sunday hunting in the United States..

“This is a defining moment for Pennsylvania’s hunters,” said Bingaman. “But we’re not done yet and Pennsylvania Hunters need to remain engaged and vocal as this legislation nears the finish line”
