Hunter Nation Wisconsin State Update - Spring 2025

Wisconsin State Updates & News

Hunter Nation Wisconsin State Director, Chris Vaughan, testified before the Wisconsin Senate Committee on Financial Institutions and Sporting Heritage, arguing for a science-based wolf management plan rather than an unchecked protection policy.

  • Testimony in opposition to CR 23-047 called for a statewide wolf population goal and a defined harvest quota to ensure responsible conservation.
  • Despite anticipated legislative approval, Governor Tony Evers is expected to veto any pro-hunting amendments, making continued advocacy critical.

In recent legislative hearings, anti-hunting activists dominated the discussion, highlighting the need for more hunter involvement. By standing against this flawed proposal, Hunter Nation aimed to protect Wisconsin’s wildlife management practices from being dictated by political influence rather than sound conservation principles.

More than 100 sportsmen braved a snow and ice storm late Sunday, March 30, to attend a Hunter Nation meeting in Ashland, Wis., where issues ranging from wolf management to so-called “weather warfare” were discussed.

Hunter Nation Wisconsin State Director Chris Vaughn opened the meeting with updates on the group’s advocacy around predator management, particularly its involvement in the ongoing debate over federal wolf delisting in the Great Lakes states.

Conservationist vs Activists - Who's Voice Will Be Heard?

These events are crucial to keep our voices strong and increase our presence throughout the entire state. Anti hunters and animal rights activists will never understand or accept our way of life. Their argument is we take sick enjoyment in harvesting wild game.

I have never heard a sane argument by an anti-hunter with a solution where nature will somehow manage itself. We know that without population goals, quotas and management we will witness suffering, overpopulation, starvation, increased death and loss of natural habitat.

Hunter Nation is at the forefront and our voices must be louder. We were successful last year, but much more is needed - with your support!

Hunter Nation Wisconsin is in the fight working for you. Join the fight today!

Recognizing Species Recovery, HR845 Would Delist the Gray Wolf

Hunter Nation Applauds Representatives Boebert and Tiffany for introducing legislation to support responsible, local wildlife management and to protect livestock and pets

On March 25, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Hunter Nation, the leading grassroots organization for America’s hunters and conservationists, is demanding that Congress take immediate action to delist the gray wolf from the Endangered Species Act (ESA) following today’s House Committee on Natural Resources hearing.

The Committee’s legislative hearing on the "Pet and Livestock Protection Act of 2025" (H.R. 845) made one thing abundantly clear: The gray wolf has recovered beyond any reasonable measure, and it is time to return management to the states. While testifying before the Committee, wildlife management expert Dr. Nathan M. Roberts laid out the undeniable facts:

  • In the Great Lakes region alone, there are an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 wolves, a population level more than ten times the original recovery goal.
  • Recovery goals have been surpassed every year since at least 1994, yet the wolf remains listed, tying the hands of state wildlife managers.
  • Scientific studies, including work by Adams et al. (2008), show that harvest rates of up to 29% have no negative impact on annual wolf population trajectories.

Hunter Nation Founder, Keith Mark, after attending the March 25th committee hearing on HR845 stated, “On behalf of Hunter Nation, we want to say a special thank you to Congressman Tom Tiffany and Congresswoman Lauren Boebert for introducing the much needed Pet and Livestock Protection Act. Hunter Nation strongly supports the delisting of the gray wolf and returning the management of the gray wolf to the states.”
