Happy Easter from Your Brother in Christ and the Field
As we come together with family this Easter, I’m reminded of the miracle at the center of it all: the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For me, Kelby Seanor, Alabama and Georgia State Director for Hunter Nation, Easter is more than just a date on the calendar. It’s a strong reminder of new life, hope, and the promise of eternal life through faith. Growing up as a hunter in rural Georgia and Kentucky, that message feels especially real when I walk into the spring woods.
I was born in Georgia and grew up in the hills of Kentucky, where my dad first handed me a shotgun and taught me to hunt doves, pheasants, and quail. Those cool mornings, chasing birds and watching the dogs work, taught me patience, respect for the land, and the excitement of seeing God’s creation in action. Deer hunting with him in the late autumn woods brought us even closer. We’d sit quietly, talking about life, faith, and our duty as stewards of the outdoors. My parents always made sure I knew that none of this was possible without the Lord’s help. In our home, faith, family, and respect for nature were more than just words - they were the foundation of everything we did.
Spring always brought something special: turkey season. There’s nothing like hearing that first gobble echo through the woods around Easter. It feels as if the forest is celebrating resurrection and renewal too. I remember those early mornings as a kid, sitting next to my dad, watching the sky brighten and the world wake up. The turkeys would
strut, birds would sing, and I’d feel deeply grateful. God gave us not only the resurrection but also this beautiful, living world to enjoy, to hunt responsibly, and to pass on to the next generation.
Now, with my own family, I see those same traditions growing. Easter Sunday still begins in church for us, as we celebrate the empty tomb and the hope we have in Christ. The rest of the day often takes us outside, whether we’re on a family egg hunt that turns into a walk in nature or talking about how the new life in spring reflects the new life Jesus gives us. My family is learning what my parents taught me: hunting isn’t just about the harvest. It’s about caring for the land with faith, spending irreplaceable time together, and being thankful for every sunrise and every chance to be in the field.
This season, as Hunter Nation, we celebrate both our Christian faith and the outdoor traditions we work to protect. We stand for God, family, country, and the hunting heritage because these values are part of the American story. Easter reminds us that even when our traditions face challenges like overregulation or habitat loss, renewal is possible through faith and hard work.
To every hunter and their family reading this, I pray your Easter is filled with joy, reflection, and maybe even a gobble or two if you’re lucky enough to be out in the turkey woods. Hug your loved ones a little tighter, thank the Lord for the blessings of the field, and keep living out the values that make America strong.
He is risen!
Let’s go celebrate that truth in the places that mean the most to us.
In Christ and the outdoors,
Kelby Seanor
