The Second Amendment and Georgia Hunters: Our Heritage, Our Freedom, Our Future

Fellow Georgia hunters,

Here in the Peach State, hunting isn’t just a hobby - it’s a way of life. From chasing turkeys in the piney woods of South Georgia to putting venison in the freezer during deer season in the North Georgia mountains, we live the traditions our fathers and grandfathers passed down. At the heart of that freedom stands the Second Amendment.

What does the Second Amendment mean to Georgia hunters?

It means the God-given right to keep and bear arms so we can hunt, provide for our families, protect our land, and defend our way of life. The Second Amendment isn’t some abstract legal concept - it’s the reason we can legally own the rifles, shotguns, and handguns we use responsibly in the field every season. It protects our ability to teach our kids and grandkids hunter safety and marksmanship. It safeguards us against government overreach that could restrict magazine capacity, ban certain firearms, or limit where and how we hunt.

In Georgia, the Second Amendment also means the freedom to defend our farms, families, and livestock from feral hogs and other threats while we’re miles from the nearest paved road. It’s the constitutional backbone that lets hunters be the ultimate conservationists - funding wildlife management through license fees and Pittman-Robertson dollars while exercising the very rights the Founders secured for us. Without the Second Amendment, our hunting heritage doesn’t survive. It’s that simple.

Hunter Nation Georgia Chapter - Where We Stand Today

Since launching Hunter Nation Georgia earlier this year, we’ve hit the ground running. With more than 500,000 hunters across the state who too often sit out elections, our mission is clear: wake up this sleeping giant and make sure our voice is heard loud and clear in Atlanta and Washington.

The 2025-2026 biennium Georgia Legislative Session adjourned sine die on Friday, April 3, 2026. Hunter Nation Georgia was actively engaged throughout the session, advocating strongly for pro-hunting and pro-Second Amendment legislation. We pushed for important measures including stronger hunter safety education initiatives, conservation tax credits, and protections for public land access and our constitutional right to bear arms.

We’ll be releasing a full legislative recap to our members in the coming days, highlighting key outcomes from the session. While we achieved some important progress, there is still much work to do to protect Georgia’s hunting heritage.

Our grassroots network continues to grow as we build relationships with lawmakers and mobilize sportsmen and sportswomen across the state. The spring turkey season is in full swing, and our community is energized and ready for the battles ahead.

If you haven’t joined yet, now is the perfect time - head over to hunternation.org/georgia to become a member, stay informed, and get involved. Together, we’re keeping Georgia wild and free.
