It was the morning of November 7th. I was hunting a ridge between two bedding areas in the deep timber on one of our western Illinois properties. This buck appeared from behind me at 30 yards locked on a hot doe. I’ve never seen a frame this large on an 8 point and it was no question … go time. At full draw I waited for the buck to turn broadside and let the arrow fly. I hit a small twig and the shot was back on the deer. After reviewing tactacam footage, I realized I had a questionable gut shot. I let the deer go for the night. The next day I searched and lost blood about 600 yards into the trail. So I started to grid search. After a couple hours, I was losing hope. I said a prayer “ Lord, please help me find this deer”. It wasn’t 30 seconds and I started to hear a crow making a lot of noise right around the next bend. I figured maybe that crow is on my deer. As I turned the corner, there he laid. Biggest 8 point whitetail of my life. Deer green scored 156 7/8 gross typical 8.
