Fighting for Disabled Veteran’s Right To Hunt in Montana

In April, Hunter Nation drove a long-stalled bill in Montana that would allow disabled individuals—including disabled veterans—to hunt with crossbows during regular bow season. The bill was essentially dead in committee and facing heated opposition by the Backcountry Hunters and Anglers. Hunter Nation, our members, and our coalition with Montana Veterans Association moved the bill out of committee to a vote by the Montana House of Representatives.

Though the bill failed to pass by extremely narrow margins, Hunter Nation proved that our activist and engagement model can have a significant impact—particularly when legislators are not expecting to be challenged. The fight has only begun on this issue in the state.
